This Japanese Industrial Standard specifies the free cutting steels, hereafter referred to as “steels”, which are manufactured by adding sulfur to carbon steel especially in order to improve machinability. The steels that contain phosphorus or lead in combination with sulfur shall also be covered by this Standard. Further, the steels quoted in the Annex also comprise a part of this Standard. The Annex is applicable as a substitute for the text.
