This Standard is one of a series of standards dealing with the testing of paints, varnishes and related products. This Standard specifies a method for the determination of the hiding power by measurement of the spreading rate necessary to give a specified colour difference between identical paint films applied over contrasting substrates. It is not applicable to fluorescent, pearlescent or metallic paints, nor is it applicable to paints that have been specifically formulated for spray or dip application, because the applicators used in this Standard are unsuitable for paints of low viscosity, though the principle of the method could be used for the evaluation of such paints, provided that uniform films were prepared.
