This standard specifies method of measuring brightness of paper and pulp for paper making by means of the Hunter\'s brightness apparatus. The brightness of papers and pulps mentioned herein shall be the ratio of the reflectance of those papers and pulps when illuminated with the light in the blue and violet portions of the spectrum to that of the standard magnesium oxide surface. This value has intimate correlation to the brightness of a white or nearly white paper and pulp and also is applicable to the bleached pulp and the paper made therefrom.
