This specification covers the design, production, and tests for a thermoluminescent dosimeter DT- 526/PD, hereafter referred to as the dosimeter. The radiation sensitive element of the dosimeter is a luminescent solid that stores part of the energy received from exposure to gamma radiation. The storage is due to trapping of electrons, which have been freed by the radiation, as imperfections in the solid. When the phosphor is heated, the stored energy is emitted as luminescent light. The light output is proportional to the accumulated radiation dose.
