This specification covers AA7085, AA7056, and AA7181 wrought aluminum alloy
armor plate for non-fusion welded applications in nominal thicknesses from 0.500 to 3.000 inch,
inclusive, AA7075 wrought aluminum alloy armor plate for non-fusion welded applications in
nominal thicknesses from 1.000 to 1.500 inch, inclusive, and AA7099 wrought aluminum alloy
armor plate for non-fusion welded applications in nominal thicknesses from 2.000 to 3.000 inch,
inclusive (see 6.2). Additional applications for the AA7056 alloy with a T741 temper is also
included in this specification for ballistic plate with an ordered thickness of 2.500 to 3.000 inches.
The fusion weldability of these wrought aluminum alloy armors has not been tested or analyzed
over this nominal thickness range. Therefore, these alloys should only be used as appliqué armor
until a weldability study has been completed with acceptable results.
