This specification covers forged aluminum alloy armor, die forgings from 3/4 inch up to and including 3 inches in thickness for type I, class A forgings, and from 3/4 inch up to and including 4 inches for type I, class B forgings. Type II forging thicknesses should be as specified (see 6.2). For qualification or lot release verification on forgings with thicknesses greater than the current limits, testing is allowed on machined parts or milled samples at a thinner gauge. The tested thickness and the performance threshold will be determined by the purchasing agent at time of contract or purchase order.
