This specification provides requirements for the preparation and use of the Enhanced Compressed Raster Graphic (ECRG). ECRG is a general purpose product, comprising computer-readable digital map and chart images with appropriate attribution, as necessary. It is intended to support various weapons, C3I theater battle management, mission planning, and digital moving map systems. ECRG data is derived directly from digital sources through filtering, compression, and reformatting to the ECRG Specification. ECRG files are physically formatted within a National Imagery Transmission Format 2.1 (NITF 2.1) file.
