The purpose of this standard is to provide type designation systems and procedures for use by the Department of Defense (DoD) to standardize the identification of digital imaging equipment, aeronautical equipment, support equipment, munitions and aerospace vehicle engines. In addition, this standard defines the method for obtaining the nomenclature and type designations of these items
