This standard prescribes performance criteria for HEMP protection against functional upset or damage due to HEMP threat environments defined in MIL-STD-2169. This standard does not mandate specific design solutions to meet the criteria. The design, topology, and construction of the HEMP protection subsystem (HPS) are entirely at the discretion of the procuring activity, as long as the performance criteria of this standard are met.
