This standard covers the design evaluation or first article testing (FAT) requirements for new families of valves; modifications to existing valves, including nondestructive, welding, material identification, and vibration; and high-impact (H.I.) shock testing for valves and their actuators. Design evaluation or FAT is performed on a valve, multiple valves, or a series of valves in the same family to ensure the design will meet requirements for the intended ship systems. It does not apply to primary side components of nuclear ships.
