Deze norm geeft de handelsbenamingen, volumieke massa's en botanische herkomst van houtsoorten. De norm geeft de benamingen van houtsoorten zoals deze dienen te worden gebruikt in de handel bij het aanvragen en aanbieden, in bestekken bij het voorschrijven, alsmede in de literatuur als voorkeursbenaming bij vermelding van houtsoorten. De norm is van toepassing op houtsoorten die worden verhandeld op de Nederlandse markt, in Nederland een toepassing vinden of waarvan kan worden verwacht dat dit binnen afzienbare tijd het geval zal zijn.
