Deze norm beschrijft de bepaling van de ruwheid van een papier- of kartonoppervlak volgens Bendtsen en is van toepassing op de meeste soorten papier of karton. De norm is niet van toepassing op zeer poreus papier of karton. Het onderscheidend vermogen van de methode van Bendtsen is beter bij de minder effen papier- of kartonoppervlakken. Voor meer effen papieroppervlakken leent zich de methode van Bekk beter (NEN 2011). De ruwheid kan ook worden gemeten volgens NEN 1839.
