Deze norm beschrijft de meting van de hardheid met de Shore-A-hardheidsmeter. De norm is van toepassing bij routinemetingen van de hardheid van gevulcaniseerde rubber met de Shore-A-hardheidsmeter tot 90 eenheden. Voor metingen in het laboratorium en in arbitragegevallen, zie NEN-ISO 48, NEN-ISO 1400 en NEN-ISO 1818, die de bepaling van de hardheid in IRHD beschrijven.
