Deze norm beschrijft de bepaling van de waterretentiekarakteristiek (hierna afgekort tot retentiekarakteristiek), in niet verstoorde monsters volgens een onderdrukmethode. Voor de hier beschreven onderdrukmethode wordt gebruik gemaakt van een poreuze plaat in combinatie met een buret. De norm is van toepassing bij het onderzoek naar de fysische eigenschappen van en transportverschijnselen in de onverzadigde zone van de bodem in het drukhoogtetraject van h = 0 tot ongeveer h = -200 cm. Met de methode kan zowel een desorptie-(uitdroging) als een absorptie-(bevochtiging)retentiekarakteristiek in het desbetreffende drukhoogtetraject worden gemeten.
