This standard provides a method for detecting and quantifying Escherichia coli by filtering a water sample through a membrane filter, resuscitation of filtered germs on a solid, non-selective culture medium and culture on a solid selective culture medium, after which differentiation of formed colonies takes place by means of investigation for the presence of indole.
