In deze norm zijn de veiligheidseisen voor de mechanische constructie van handslijpmachines met motoraandrijving vastgelegd. Andere veiligheidsaspecten ten aanzien van deze machines zoals de elektrische veiligheid of het stof-, lawaai- en trillingsgevaar, worden niet behandeld. Voor het veilig gebruik van handslijpmachines geeft bijlage F aanbevelingen. De norm is van toepassing op handslijpmachines die worden gebruikt met: (rechte) slijpschijven, dubbelconische slijpschijven, slijpkommen, versterkte doorgezette slijpschijven en doorslijpschijven; slijpstiften met draadgat; slijpstiften met schacht.
