Bibliography
Outlines a method known as ballistic pendulum (Elmendorf) method for determining the tear force of textile fabrics. Outlines the measurement of the tear force needed to propagate a single-rip tear of specified length from a cut in a fabric when a sudden force is applied. Mainly covers woven textile fabrics, and could apply to those made by other techniques, for example to nonwovens. The test does not generally cover knitted and woven elastic fabrics, and is not suited for highly anisotropic or loose fabrics where tear transfer from one direction to another of the fabric during the tear test is likely to happen.
