Consists of three parts, which define the functional aspects of this part of ISO/IEC 12088. The Common Architecture for Imaging (IPI-CAI) defines the overall architecture. The Programmer's Imaging Kernel System (IPI-PIKS) and the Image Interchange Facility (IPI-IIF) each specify a language independent, image processing Application Program Interface (API) within the Image Processing and Interchange standard.
