Describes how a welding procedure specification is approved by welding procedure tests. Defines the conditions of welding procedure and the limits of validity of an approved welding procedure for all practical welding operations within range of variables. Applies to the arc welding of steels. The principle of this standard may be applied to other fusion welding processes subject to agreement between the contracting parties. Covers normative references, definitions, preliminary welding procedure specification, welding procedure test, test piece, general, shape and dimensions of test pieces, welding of test pieces, examination and testing, extent of testing, location and cutting of test specimens, non-destructive examination, destructive tests, re-testing and range of approval.
