    Cette Norme européenne spécifie le câblage générique à utiliser pour des locaux qui peuvent comprendre un seul ou plusieurs bâtiments sur un campus. Elle couvre les câblages en cuivre à paires symétriques et les câblages en fibres optiques. Cette norme est optimisée pour les locaux dans lesquels la distance maximale pour la fourniture des services de télécommunications est de 2000 m. Les principes de cette Norme européenne peuvent également être appliqués aux installations de plus grande taille. Le câblage défini par la présente norme prend en charge une large gamme de services vocaux, de données, de texte, d'image et vidéo. Cette Norme européenne spécifie: a) la structure et la configuration d'un câblage générique; b) les prescriptions de performance du câblage; c) les options de mise en oeuvre. Les prescriptions de sécurité (sécurité électrique et protection, feu etc.) et de compatibilité électromagnétique (CEM) ne font pas parti du domaine d'application de cette Norme européenne et sont couvertes par d'autres normes et réglementations. Cependant, les informations données dans cette Norme européenne peuvent aider à l'application de ces normes et réglementations.
