This document applies to thebasic safetyandessential performanceofventilatory support equipment, as defined in201.3.205, forventilatory insufficiency, as defined in201.3.204, hereafter also referred to asme equipment, in combination with itsaccessories: —intended for use in thehome healthcare environment; —intended for use by alay operator; —intended for use withpatientswho haveventilatory insufficiencyor failure, the most fragile of which would likely experience injury with the loss of this artificial ventilation; —intended fortransit-operableuse; —not intended forpatientswho are dependent on artificial ventilation for their immediate life support.
