La présente Norme internationale spécifie les exigences applicables aux revêtements d'aluminium appliqués par des techniques de déposition physique en phase vapeur sur les aciers doux, les aciers faiblement alliés, les aciers à haute résistance, les aciers résistants à la corrosion, les alliages d'aluminium, les alliages de titane et autres matériaux le cas échéant. Les revêtements d'aluminium déposés physiquement en phase vapeur ne sont pas appropriés pour les aciers ayant une résistance à la traction supérieure à 1400 MPa en raison de la possibilité de fragilisation par l'hydrogène due à la corrosion en service, pendant le stockage ou résultant d'une protection cathodique excessive.
