Cette méthode est applicable à tous les filés simples réalisés avec n'importe quelle matière textile en "pur" ou en "mélange", d'une manière générale, y compris ceux obtenus parla filature dite à fibres libérées, à l'exclusion des filés obtenus par fausse-torsion dits "par autotorsion", c'est-à-dire par assemblage de deux mèches soumises à la fausse torsion opposée pour chacune des mèches par rapport à l'autre. Par contre, la méthode s'applique également aux filés extraits de tissus ou de tricots.
