Diese Technische Spezifikation gilt für die Bestimmung des Verhaltens von Böden bei Kompression, Schwellen und Konsolidation. Der zylindrische, in seiner seitlichen Anordnung behinderte Probekörper, wird stufenweise vertikal axial belastet oder entlastet und kann dabei axial zu den Endflächen entwässern. Die wesentlichen Parameter, die aus dem Oedometerversuch abgeleitet werden, beziehen sich auf die Zusammendrückbarkeit und die Geschwindigkeit der Primärkonsolidation eines Bodens. Es können ebenfalls die Vorkonsolidierungsspannung, die Geschwindigkeit der Sekundärkonsolidation und Kennwerte für das Schwellen abgeleitet werden.
