Diese ÖNORM legt die allgemeinen Bestimmungen fest, die für alle Seilbahnsysteme gelten (ein zweiter Teil dieser ÖNORM wird ergänzende Anforderungen enthalten, die für Zweiseil-Pendelbahnen ohne Tragseilbremse gelten). Sie legt allgemeine Merkmale, die Grundsätze der Planung und allgemeine Sicherheitsanforderungen fest. Diese ÖNORM gilt für den Bau und Betrieb von Seilbahnen und Schleppaufzügen, sie behandelt jedoch keine Einzelheiten für den Betrieb und für die Instandhaltung sowie weder Berechnungen noch detaillierte Bestimmungen über die Ausführung der Bauteile. Sie enthält auch Anforderungen zur Unfallverhütung und zum Arbeitnehmerschutz.
