Für den Bau und die Arbeitsweise von Abreisskupplungen für Zapfsäulen sind die sicherheitstechnischen und die umweltrelevanten Anforderungen festgelegt. Diese Anforderungen gelten für Umgebungstemperaturen von -20 grad C bis +40 grad C für druckversorgte Zapfsäulen mit Durchflussraten im Bereich von 45 l/min bis 200 l/min, die an Tankstellen für die Abgabe von flüssigen Kraftstoffen aufgestellt werden und für das Betanken von Tanks von Automobilen, Booten und Leichtflugzeugen sowie von tragbaren Behältern dienen. Die Festlegungen beziehen sich insbesondere auf die elektrischen, mechanischen und hydraulischen Eigenschaften von Abreisskupplungen und der zugehörigen oder an ihnen angebrachten elektrischen Betriebsmitttel. Der Teil 1 behandelt die Anforderungen an die Zapfsäulen selbst.
