Diese Internationale Norm legt Anforderungen zur Einteilung von Drahtelektroden, Drähten und Stäben für das Schutzgasschweissen und Wolfram-Inertgasschweissen von warmfesten Stählen fest sowie für ihr Schweissgut im Schweisszustand oder nach einer Wärmebehandlung. Eine Drahtelektrode kann mit unterschiedlichen Schutzgasen geprüft und entsprechend eingeteilt werden. Diese Internationale Norm benutzt zur Einteilung ein kombiniertes System, das auf der Einteilung nach der chemischen Zusammensetzung der Drahtelektroden, Drähte und Stäbe mit Anforderungen an Streckgrenze und an die durchschnittliche Kerbschlagarbeit des reinen Schweissgutes von 47 J beruht oder auf der Zugfestigkeit des reinen Schweissgutes und der chemischen Zusammensetzung der Drahtelektroden, Drähte und Stäbe.
