Diese Europäische Norm legt eine Kennzeichnung zur Identifizierung von elektrischen und elektronischen Geräten entsprechend Artikel 11(2) der Richtlinie 2002/96/EG (WEEE - Waste from Electrical and Electronic Equipment) fest. Diese Kennzeichnung gilt für elektrische und elektronische Geräte, die unter den Anhang IA der Richtlinie 2002/96/EG fallen, sofern sie nicht Teil eines anderen Gerätetyps sind, die nicht in den Anwendungsbereich dieser Richtlinie fällt. Sie dient dazu, den Hersteller des Geräts eindeutig zu identifizieren sowie dem Nachweis, dass das Geräte nach dem 13. August 2005 in Verkehr gebracht worden ist.
