Diese ÖVE/ÖNORM legt zwei Hauptverfahren zur Ermittlung von geringen Bitfehlerquoten durch beschleunigte Messungen fest. Dabei handelt es sich um das Verfahren mit variabler Entscheidungsschwelle (Hauptabschnitt 4) und das Verfahren mit variabler optischer Schwelle (Hauptabschnitt 5). Darüber hinaus wird im Anhang B ein drittes Verfahren, das Sinus- Interferenzverfahren, beschrieben.
