Provides an overview of the jobs undertaken by a GSM mobile station (MS) when in idle mode, which is switched on but not having a dedicated channel allocated, e.g. not making or receiving a call. Also defines corresponding network functions. This document explains how the requirements of the GSM 02 series Technical Specifications on idle mode operation shall be implemented. Clause 2 of this ETS provides a general description of the idle mode process. Clause 3 covers main requirements and solutions of those requirements. Clause 4 defines processes used in the idle mode.
