This Handbook is written for the users of measuring equipment in industry. It sets out to explain measurement and measuring instruments in a straightforward manner. It covers such topics as selecting the right instrument for the application, what are 'accuracy' and 'uncertainty of measurement', and why instruments need to be calibrated and describes some approaches to calibration. As the first of a series, these issues are dealt with in a generic manner, while the subsequent parts, each devoted to specific types of measuring equipment deal with the relevant details.
