Applies to all vacuum pumps, vacuum pump combinations and vacuum pumping systems. Gives the significant hazards relating to vacuum pumps and defines safety requirements applying to design, installation, operation, maintenance and dismantling of vacuum pumps during their lifetime and disposal. Not applicable to pumps which pump continuously on open systems where the pump inlet pressure is more than 75 kPa (750 mbar) absolute, ie. vacuum cleaners and ventilation fans.
