Applicable to fibre optic attenuators, which are passive because they do not contain any opto-electronic or other transducing elements, have two ports for transmitting optical power and attenuate the transmitted power in a variable or fixed fashion, and that the ports are optical fibres or optical fibre connectors. Determines uniform requirements for attenuator requirements and quality assessment methods. Does not include test and measurement methods which are covered in IEC 61300-1.
