Presents Bellcore's view of both conceptual and applied aspects of information modeling. Information models are used to describe information (data + behavior) independently of how it is stored or used. The Concepts present foundations for the information modeling guidelines. In particular the interrelationships between "semantic" and "object" information modeling are dealt with from a common perspective. It is shown that information modeling is equivalent to building and using a library of very general precisely defined, reusable concepts (i.e. a generic object class library).
