Glossary

Contains Bellcore's view of proposed Switched Multi-megabit Data Service (SMDS) networking generic requirements for a LEC network. Here "SMDS" encompasses Exchange SMDS, Exchange Access SMDS (XA-SMDS), and BCC-ILEC serving arrangements for SMDS. To support SMDS, each switching system (SS) in a LEC network needs to support generic networking functions, such as data transport, routing, congestion management, load splitting, and feature-support functions. This TA defines SS requirements for these functions. These requirements cover the Inter-Switching System Interface (ISSI) Protocol (ISSIP) for data transport; the ISSI Routing Management Protocol (RMP) for the transport of network routing information and the identification of including the Congestion Management Protocol (CMP) for the generation, distribution and receipt of Explicit Congestion.
