Provides a complete interface specification suitable for non-synchronous applications where full functionality is not required. Applicable to the interconnection of Data Terminal Equipment (DTE) and Data Circuit-Terminating Equipment (DCE) employing serial binary data interchange where a minimal number of control and information circuits are required. Defines scope, interface mechanical characteristics, and functional description of the interchange circuits.
