Informs the telecommunications industry of Bellcore's view of Digital Loop Carrier (DLC) system criteria that describes the characteristics and the features needed for general application of DLC systems in the Local Exchange Carrier network. It is not the objective of this document to specify a complete definition of a specific product design. Systems covered by this document consist of a Central Office Terminal located near the customers to be served, and a digital transmission facility connecting the two terminals. Included are criteria on system level functions; carrier transmission facility physical layer interfaces; traffic capacity; & maintenance and operations systems interfaces. Signalling & transmission for locally- & non-locally-switched services & non-switched services are also included.
