Bellcore's view of network compatibility generic requirements and the functions and features of SONET ADMs required for use in interoffice and distribution networks, with an aim to help promote compatibility among SONET ADM (or functional equivalent), that will add and drop a variety of digital signals from a SONET OC N signal, is presented in this TR. The digital signal interface to SONET ADM can accommodate either synchronous or asynchronous signals. The SONET ADM may also multiplex between the OC N and SONET OC M signal as an optional feature. This document also describes a version of the SONET ADM that generates a SONET OC N signal from up to Nx (28DSI) or equivalent signals, referred to as the "terminal" configuration. The requirements in this TR (unless noted otherwise) apply to both version of SONETADM
