Identifies those generic engineering and technical requirements that, in Bellcore's view, must be met for Gas Tube Protector Units (GTPUs) to satisfy the needs of a typical BCC. GTPUs are intended to prevent unwanted surge voltages and currents on the outside plant from reaching terminal equipment used in telecommunications networks. This document describes the criteria for GTPUs intended for use at central offices and customer stations, by carrier systems and on the vertical side of the main distributing frame in a central office building. Special electrical requirements necessary to protect the AT & T5ESSw line cards are included in this document. This TR contains the physical, mechanical, electrical, quality and environmental criteria of GTPUs: also recommended test methods.
