The proposed requirements & objectives for the transmission performance of a local switching system End Office (EO), an essential element of network connection, are included in this module. These requirements & objectives differ from those when the Bell System was an integrated network. Revisions & additions have been made in resistance design rules for loops, hybrid balance, the Pulse Code Modification (PCM) coding law, bit robbing, crosstalk & Remote Switching Unit (RSU) loss variability. Circuit Switched ISDN services providing for end to end connectivity is also included. These relate to overall transmission objectives for switched access & intraLATA connections handling voice & voiceband data services, & collectively constitute a set of minimally acceptable standards.
