Bellcore's view of generic requirements for: Basic 911 Emergency Service - The basic 911 emergency service feature gives a 3 digit universal telephone number 911 that provides the public direct access to an emergency service bureau, normally without charges to the calling subscriber. The service is 1 way only, ending at the service bureau. The bureau is normally located within a police department, but in some communities it is located in a fire department or independent agency serving a communications center. With relevant CPE at the service bureau and with the abilities shown, connections are controlled at the service bureau regardless of the action of the calling party.
