Bellcores proposed generic requirements for providing ISDN Hold Capability (I HC). I HC allows an ISDN user, while on any speech, 3.1kHz audio or circuit mode data call, to place the call on hold and make the B channel on the user's interface available for another call. After placing the call on hold, the user can retrieve the held call (resume the B channel connection for that call) or initiate clearing of the held call.
