La specifica tecnica descrive la procedura per l'esecuzione del trattamento di rialcalinizzazione del calcestruzzo armato carbonatato. Il trattamento è applicabile alle parti delle strutture in calcestruzzo armato esposte all'atmosfera con armature di rinforzo in acciaio con basse caratteristiche meccaniche. La rialcalinizzazione di strutture in calcestruzzo armato ripristina le condizioni di protezione delle armature in calcestruzzo che ha subito il processo di carbonatazione. Per la protezione delle armature del calcestruzzo armato sono impiegate anche altre tecniche elettrochimiche che comprendono la protezione catodica, la prevenzione catodica (vedere la UNI EN 12696) e l'estrazione dei cloruri. La specifica tecnica non può essere applicata in presenza di armature rivestire con resine epossidiche e armature zincate e alle strutture in calcestruzzo armato precompres.
