La norma specifica le procedure per la dosimetria delle radiazioni X e gamma di riferimento per la taratura degli strumenti di protezione dalle radiazioni nell'intervallo di energia da 8 keV a 1,3 MeV e da 4 MeV a 9 MeV. I metodi di produzione ed i ratei nominali di kerma ottenuti da queste radiazioni di riferimento sono specificati nella UNI ISO 4037-1.
