Der vorliegende Teil von IEC 61800 legt Anforderungen an Leistungsantriebssysteme mit einstellbarer Drehzahl oder ihre Bestandteile in Bezug auf Überlegungen zur elektrischen, thermischen und energetischen Sicherheit fest. Er berücksichtigt keine angetriebenen Einrichtungen ausser für Anforderungen an Schnittstellen. Er gilt für elektrische Leistungsantriebssysteme mit einstellbarer Drehzahl, die die Energiewandlung, Antriebssteuerung und den Motor oder die Motoren einschliessen. Ausgeschlossen sind Bahnantriebe und elektrische Fahrzeugantriebe. Er gilt für Gleichstrom-Antriebssysteme, die aus Netzwechselspannungen bis zu 1 kV, 50 Hz oder 60 Hz, gespeist werden sowie für Wechselstrom-Antriebssysteme mit Stromrichtereingangs- oder -ausgangsspannungen bis zu 35 kV, 50 Hz oder 60 Hz.
