Diese Europäische Norm ist für die Anwendung auf alle sicherheitsrelevanten Eisenbahnsignalsysteme, -Teilsysteme und -Einrichtungen gedacht. Für alle Eisenbahnsignalsysteme, -Teilsysteme und -Einrichtungen sind jedoch Gefährdungsanalyse und Risikobewertungsprozesse, wie in EN 50126 und in dieser Norm definiert, notwendig, um die Sicherheitsanforderungen zu identifizieren.Diese Europäische Norm gilt für Spezifikation, Entwurf, Konstruktion, Installation, Abnahme, Betrieb, Instandhaltung und Änderung bzw. Erweiterung von kompletten Signalsystemen und auch für einzelne Teilsysteme und Einrichtungen innerhalb eines Gesamtsystems. Für elektronische Bauteile enthält Anhang C entsprechende Verfahren.
