Die Norm gilt in Verbindung mit VG 81208 Teil 1 und Bauvorschrift (BV), Heft 0571 (Modellversuche), für Schiffe der Bundeswehr. Der Rundlaufversuch (RND) dient hauptsächlich der Bestimmung der hydrodynamischen Kräfte und Momente in Abhängigkeit von der Winkelgeschwindigkeit um die z-Achse, bei Ubooten im getauchten Zustand auch um die y-Achse.
