Die Norm gilt in Verbindung mit VG 81208 Teil 1 und Bauvorschrift (BV), Heft 0571 (Modellversuche), für Schiffe der Bundeswehr. Der Schrägschleppversuch (SSL) dient der Bestimmung hydrodynamischen Kräfte und Momente in Abhängigkeit vom Driftwinkel und vom Seitenruderwinkel, bei Ubooten im getauchten Zustand auch in Abhängigkeit vom Trimmwinkel und vom Tiefenruderwinkel.
