A Withdrawn Standard is one, which is removed from sale, and its unique number can no longer be used. The Standard can be withdrawn and not replaced, or it can be withdrawn and replaced by a Standard with a different number.

Requirements to ensure protection to specify tests and terminology in safety matters. Requirements for safety applicable to C39. More stringent requirements may be included. Excludes following instruments. Weather proof for use in hazardous locations. Shock proof, vibration proof for medical applications which generate power for test purposes; built to military specifications. Additional requirements may apply with rated circuit to ground voltages exceeding 10 kilovolts or frequencies exceeding 100 kilohertz. Excludes instruments from extra low energy source without fire hazard. See Article 725 C1 and X4.12-1970. concerned only with safety.
