A Withdrawn Standard is one, which is removed from sale, and its unique number can no longer be used. The Standard can be withdrawn and not replaced, or it can be withdrawn and replaced by a Standard with a different number.

Applies to voltmeters, as in Sections 2 and 3 for laboratory use, with scales marked in volts. Not necessarily applying to special-purpose voltmeters of unusual characteristics or applications. For multipurpose apparatus measuring other quantities this standard covers only portions and functions confirming to the foregoing applications. Does not specify details of construction, except for safety requirements of C39.5-1974. This standard: (1) defines terms; (2) classifies voltmeters according to operating principle, accuracy ratings, etc., (3) establishes requirements for conformance with accuracy rating; (4) specifies voltmeter information; (5) informs conformance with requirements and specifications.
